Dupuy Grants Financial Assistance to the 1995 edition of "Fleuve et Musique du Monde"

MONTREAL, JULY 11, 1995 The Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Honourable Michel Dupuy, today announced a contribution for the 1995 edition of "Fleuve et musique du monde" that will take place from July 27 to July 30, 1995.

"Canadian Heritage's support of organizations such as La Corporation Saint-Laurent Grands Lacs, who produces the 1995 edition of « Fleuve et musique du monde », demonstrates the Canadian government's desire to contribute to the advancement of the arts in Quebec," stated Mr. Dupuy. "The federal government is aware of the major contributions that such organizations make to enriching our artistic heritage."

The contribution of $20,000 was granted under Component III - Festivals and Special Events - of the Cultural Initiatives Program (CIP). Since its inception, the Cultural Initiatives Program has granted funding to many professional cultural organizations in order to improve management or for projects involving capital assistance, festivals or special events in areas such as cinema, dance, design, music, theatre and the visual arts.

Funding for this event, which was included in the federal budget tabled in February 1995, is part of established funding. The support granted shows that culture is among the priorities defined by this government to better serve Canadians and make rational use of public funds.
