Minister Announces Appointments to National Arts Centre, National Museum of Science and Technology

OTTAWA, March 29, 1996 The Honourable Sheila Copps, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced the appointment of David Hill as Vice- Chairperson of the National Arts Centre; David Strangway as Chairperson of the National Museum of Science and Technology, and Eric Lemieux as a trustee of the National Museum of Science and Technology. The appointments are effective immediately.

Mr. Hill, appointed Vice-Chairperson of the NAC, is an Ottawa lawyer and senior partner with Perley-Robertson, Panet, Hill & McDougall. He is a Queen's Counsel and honorary life member of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police. He has been an active member of several organizations, including the Canadian Cancer Society, the Board of Trustees of the Civic Hospital and the Ontario, Canadian and International Associations of Chiefs of Police.

Dr. Strangway, appointed Chairperson of the National Museum of Science and Technology, is president and vice-chancellor of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Dr. Strangway obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. He is the author of several articles and the recipient of many awards. In addition to teaching at universities in Canada and the U.S., he has served as chief of the Geophysics Branch at NASA, Johnson Space Centre at Houston.

Mr. Lemieux, appointed trustee of the NMST, is a professor at Collège Limoilou, Quebec, and president of Sofitech Inc. in Sainte Foy, Quebec. He received the Palasis Trophy Award from the Faculty of Administrative Sciences of Laval University and was included on the "List of Excellence" of that faculty. He is also involved in community and professional organizations such as the Board of Laval University.
