The Government of Canada is Proud to Support the New Painting Symposium of Canada

BAIE SAINT-PAUL, July 31, 1998 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced that the sum of $40,500 has been granted to the 1998 edition of the New Painting Symposium of Canada. This 16th edition will take place in Baie Saint-Paul, from July 31 to August 31.

"The New Painting Symposium of Canada is a major artistic event," said Minister Copps. "It is a forum that brings together artists, critics and art lovers interested in visual arts from Canada and abroad. There is a spirit of openness, sharing and collaboration here, that speaks of the vitality of our culture, and helps to spread it far beyond our borders."

The Department of Canadian Heritage has given this financial aid to the 1998 edition of the New Painting Symposium of Canada as part of the Cultural Initiatives Program. Funding for this project was provided for in the February 1998 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
