The Government of Canada is Proud to Support the second Salon international du livre de Québec

QUÉBEC CITY, March 28, 2000 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced $58,000 in funding to the second Salon international du livre de Québec, to be held from April 12 to 16, 2000 at the Québec City Convention Centre.

"Books are a real window on the world, providing invaluable knowledge and opening the minds of everyone who opens the cover. I am convinced that this gathering of professionals from the publishing sector and literature enthusiasts will foster enriching exchanges that will satisfy all participants' appetite for reading," said Minister Copps.

Under the theme "Reading without borders," this year's Salon international du livre de Québec will focus, in particular, on young people, with a variety of exciting activities. It will also feature French-language authors and publishers from outside Québec, whose writings and publications contribute to the influence of the French language throughout the country. This important cultural event will also include exhibitions and the awarding of prizes.

The Government of Canada is proud to support the Salon international du livre de Québec and thus promote the growth and development of culture in Canada.

The Department of Canadian Heritage has made a financial contribution to the second Salon international du livre de Québec under its Book Publishing Industry Development Program. Funding for this project was provided for in the February 1999 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
