Appointment to National Arts Centre Board of Trustees

OTTAWA, July 10, 2006 -- The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, today announced the appointment of Julia E. Foster of Toronto, Ontario, as part-time Chair of the Board of Trustees of the National Arts Centre.

Ms. Foster has been a leader in the fields of arts and culture for more than 30 years. She is currently a member of the Board of Governors and chair of the Advisory Council for the Faculty of Fine Arts at York University. She is also a member of the Public Affairs Committee for the Art Gallery of Ontario, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund and the Bata Shoe Museum.

She has previously served as chair of the Council Board for the Ontario Arts Council, trustee for the Hospital for Sick Children, chair of the Board of Governors for the Stratford Festival, member of the Board of Directors for the Shaw Festival, and member of the Executive Committee for the Toronto International Film Festival. She has also served as a member of the Advisory Council for the Centre for Cultural Management at the University of Waterloo, the York University Schulich School of Business, and the C.M. Hinks Training, Research and Resource Institute.

The NAC Corporation is a federal cultural organization dedicated primarily to developing and showcasing the performing arts in the National Capital Region and across Canada. Home to the acclaimed National Arts Centre Orchestra, the NAC is a multidisciplinary performing arts centre that features classical music, dance, English- and French-language theatre, variety shows, and regional programming.
