Government of Canada Supports Cultural Activities in City of Québec

QUÉBEC, June 24, 2006 - On behalf of the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, Sylvie Boucher, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and Member of Parliament (Beauport-Limoilou) today announced $167,781 in funding for three Québec organizations to carry out cultural activities.

"The Government of Canada supports the arts, culture, and multiculturalism in different ways. The projects announced today show the importance of supporting community activities, as well as larger-scale undertakings that highlight the many facets of Canada's culture," said Minister Oda.

"I am very pleased to announce the Government of Canada's support for activities that will take place in the city of Québec and the surrounding area," said Ms. Boucher. "Bringing people together through culture and the promotion of our artists contributes greatly to the vitality of our communities."

The Réseau indépendant des diffuseurs d'événements artistiques unis (RIDEAU) will receive $150,000 to produce the 20th edition of Bourse RIDEAU, which will take place in the city of Québec from February 11 to 15, 2007.

Les Amis veillants, an organization that works with immigrants, will receive $12,000 to prepare and present awareness workshops intended to foster a better understanding of multiculturalism and the contribution that immigrants make to Canada.

The Fondation communautaire du grand Québec will receive $3,546 and $2,235 for the endowment funds of two arts groups. Endowment funds are a means of helping arts organizations achieve their goals and increasing their long-term viability.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage under various programs designed to support the sectors of arts, culture, and multiculturalism. Réseau indépendant des diffuseurs d'événements artistiques unis (RIDEAU)


  • $150,000 for production of the 20th edition of Bourse RIDEAU, which will take place in the city of Québec from February 11 to 15, 2007. Every year, Bourse RIDEAU enables talented artists to appear before the public on stages at home and abroad; it helps entertainment producers and agents to gain recognition for major artists; and it allows national and international presenters to bring their works to the public.

  • Financial support is provided through the Arts Presentation Canada program, which seeks to enable Canadians to appreciate the diversity of Canada's rich culture through professional-quality festivals and performances or certain artistic events.

  • RIDEAU is an association that seeks to promote the interests of performing arts presenters and contributes to the growth and impact of the performing arts in the province of Quebec.

  • $12,000 for preparation and presentation of awareness workshops intended to foster a better understanding of multiculturalism and the contribution that immigrants make to Canada. Close to 100 workshops will be offered in 13 Québec area schools, reaching over 3000 students.

  • Financial support is provided through the Multiculturalism Program, which promotes the fair and equitable participation of women and men of all backgrounds in Canadian society, as well as interaction between persons and communities of different origins.

  • Serving the city of Québec and the surrounding area, Les Amis veillants is an organization that helps integrate immigrants into society by promoting contacts with the host community.



Fondation communautaire du grand Québec

  • $3,546 for the endowment fund of the Chœur des Rhapsodes and $2,235 for the endowment fund of Premier acte, two Québec arts organizations.

  • Financial support is provided through the Endowment Incentives component of the Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program, which encourages private-sector donors to contribute to endowment funds for arts organizations in order to provide them with new and predictable sources of funding.

  • The Fondation communautaire du grand Québec offers donors the opportunity to establish funds that will provide permanent capital that cannot be disbursed, with the revenue distributed mainly according to the purposes pursued by each fund.
