Government of Canada Supports Festival international de musique actuelle de Victoriaville

VICTORIAVILLE, Quebec, June 13, 2006 On behalf of Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced $210,000 in funding for Productions Plateforme. The funding will help finance the organization of the Festival international de musique actuelle de Victoriaville in 2006, 2007, and 2008.

"For 23 years now, the Festival international de musique actuelle de Victoriaville has provided a unique springboard for avant-garde musicians from around the world. It has also given music lovers an opportunity to appreciate the best in avant-garde music," said Minister Oda.

Productions Plateforme offers the public a variety of artistic productions and visions through the Festival international de musique actuelle de Victoriaville. Twenty-three years after its creation, the festival continues to bring the many facets of musical creation to the public, while continuing to showcase Canadian musicians.

"This festival is one of the jewels of the tourist industry in the Bois-Francs region, and its cultural and economic benefits are substantial. The Government of Canada is proud to be associated through this funding with the Festival for 2006, 2007, and 2008 and, in this way, to take part in the growth of this lovely region of Quebec," said Minister Cannon.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada program. This program seeks to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentation of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
