Canada's New Government Announces Support for Museum in Northern OntarioDRYDEN, Ontario, September 26, 2006 - On behalf of the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, today announced the Government of Canada's support for the City of Dryden's Dryden and District Museum Strategic Plan. This support will allow the museum to carry out a planning process that will enhance programming and attract a larger, more diverse audience. "Museums are the guardians of our heritage, our history and our collective memory," said Minister Oda. "They help us understand who we are and what unites us, while enriching the cultural lives of Canadians." "The Dryden and District Museum is the only heritage site in this part of northern Ontario," said Minister Clement. "It ensures the preservation of local culture and history and gives residents and visitors to the area access to travelling exhibitions and heritage collections." The Dryden and District Museum will undertake a strategic planning process to guide future management of the site and determine long-term goals. An important part of the project will be consultations with communities, including the local Ojibwe nations. Financial assistance of $4,300 is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Capacity Building component of the Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program. This program supports modern management and greater financial stability in arts and heritage organizations. Information:Véronique Bruneau Erik Waddell Donald Boulanger [ Media Room ] | ||||
