Canada's New Government Announces Support for the Ottawa International Writers FestivalOTTAWA, August 10, 2006 - On behalf of the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, Royal Galipeau, Member of Parliament (Ottawa-Orléans) and Deputy Chairman of Committee of the Whole, today announced federal Government support for Oneness-World Communications, producer of the Ottawa International Writers Festival. This funding will enable the festival to develop a new brand and a stronger marketing and management strategy."Arts and cultural investments make it possible for Canadians to participate more actively in cultural activities," said Minister Oda. "The Ottawa International Writers Festival brings exceptional literary talent to the Canadian public. This is the kind of event that enriches the lives of Canadians and gives visitors to our country a taste of our rich cultural diversity." "Investment in the festival's marketing will enrich the region's cultural profile and will benefit the local economy," said Mr. Galipeau. "The Ottawa International Writers Festival has become a key forum for cultural exchange for both Canadian and international writers. I am pleased to announce funding to support its development." Oneness-World Communications produces the Ottawa International Writers Festival, which is now in its 10th year. The festival takes place every October and attracts hundreds of writers from around the world, including the finest voices in fiction, poetry, non-fiction, film, and drama. Financial assistance of $57,900 is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Capacity Building component of its Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program. This program supports modern management and greater financial stability in arts and heritage organizations.
