Government of Canada Announces Appointments to the Canadian Race Relations Foundation Investment Committee

OTTAWA, June 13, 2003 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps and Secretary of State (Multiculturalism) (Status of Women) Jean Augustine today announced the appointments of Ralph R. Weekes of Ancaster, Lynrod Douglas of Toronto, and Rebecca Ling of Scarborough, to the Canadian Race Relations Foundation Investment Committee.

A Certified Financial Planner, Mr. Weekes graduated with a BA in Economics from McMaster University. Over the past twenty-five years, Mr. Weekes has been a financial consultant with Investors Group. Throughout his career, he has conducted financial planning seminars across the country and weekly pro-shops for new and current financial consultants. He received the Investors Group National Producer Award, nine times in the last ten years.

Since 1987, Mr. Douglas is the Chairman and CEO of BlackPages Canada Inc., a directory which identifies and promotes Black and Caribbean businesses and professionals. Prior to establishing his own business, Mr. Douglas accumulated extensive management experience from working in a variety of senior management positions. He played an instrumental role with respect to the City of Toronto's procurement programs which now includes ethnic businesses in the process.

Ms. Ling, a Chartered Accountant, has been very active with a number of community and professional organizations. Her current involvements include serving as Director of the Canadian Asian Business Information Network and as Director and mediator of the Toronto's Chinese Community Services Association. She is the recipient of many awards including the 2002 Ontario Volunteer Service Award.

The Canadian Race Relations Foundation Investment Committee, comprised of financial and investment experts, is created as a separate entity from the Foundation's Board of Directors to provide them with sound financial advice on the management of the Foundation's $24-million endowment fund.
