Appointment to Board of Trustees of Canadian Museum of Civilization Announced

OTTAWA, October 10, 2000 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps announced today that General Paul D. Manson (Ret) has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, replacing Barnett J. Danson, who has resigned.

Mr. Manson of Gloucester, Ontario, served as Chief of Defence Staff from 1986 to 1989. A fighter pilot, he commanded at every level of the air force and served extensively with NATO forces in Europe. Prior to his appointment as Canada's most senior military officer, he served as Assistant Deputy Minister in the Department of National Defence.

He is Past Chairman of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada, and is currently Vice-Chairman of Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame. Mr. Manson has been extensively involved in volunteer work at the Canadian War Museum and is Chairman of the Museum's Passing the Torch Campaign.
