Appointment to the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada

OTTAWA, March 7, 2002 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced the appointment of Roderick Charles Macleod as the representative of Alberta for the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, for a three-year term.

A dedicated academic and prolific author, Mr. Macleod brings a thorough knowledge of Canadian history to the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada.

In addition, he brings a vast expertise in administration of various departments, faculties and committees, in areas pertinent to the Board, such as historic sites in Alberta and Canadian Constitutional studies.

The Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada advises the Minister of Canadian Heritage in carrying out her powers under the Historic Sites and Monuments Act, and makes recommendations to the Minister respecting the marking or commemoration of people, places and events of national historic significance. It also advises the Minister on the designation of heritage railway stations for the purposes of the Heritage Railway Stations Protection Act.
