Minister Copps Announces Appointment to the National Arts Centre Corporation

OTTAWA, May 10, 2002 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced that Adrian Burns, of Ottawa, has been named Vice-Chairperson of the National Arts Centre Corporation Board of Trustees for a three-year term.

Ms. Burns has been a Member of the Copyright Board of Canada and has been Chair of the Western Independent Producers Fund of CanWest Global Television. From 1988 to 1995, she was a Commissioner of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). Prior to joining the CRTC, she was Business Editor for CFCN-TV, in Calgary and held the positions of anchor, writer and producer between 1981 and 1988.

Ms. Burns taught Art History at Mount Royal College, in Calgary, from 1969 to 1979 and in the city's continuing education program from 1970 to 1972. She continues to be active on the boards of many organizations.

Created in 1969, the National Arts Centre Corporation (NAC) is a key federal cultural organization dedicated primarily to developing and showcasing the performing arts in the National Capital Region and across Canada. Home to the acclaimed National Arts Centre Orchestra, the NAC is a multi-disciplinary performing arts centre which features classical music, dance, English-language theatre, French- language theatre, variety and community programming. The NAC co-produces with other organizations throughout the country, hosts festivals, and through the media and its international tours, reaches out to audiences across Canada and around the world.
