Minister Copps Announces Appointment to the National Capital Commission

OTTAWA, August 12, 2002 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced the appointment of Claudia Chowaniec of Ottawa as a member of the National Capital Commission, for a three-year term.

Ms. Chowaniec is President of PRECEPT Inc. She has more than 20 years experience as an advisor to management in the field of strategic and business planning, management development, and human resource planning and training. She has worked with senior managers in a wide range of corporate and public sector organizations. She worked for consultants Block Petrella Weisbord for seven years, in the United States, before returning to Canada, in 1986, to develop her own consulting practice.

Ms. Chowaniec is a member of the Board of Directors of the YMCA-YWCA and Co-Chair of the Canadian Museum of Nature's $10-million fundraising campaign. She is also Chair of the Greater Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.

The National Capital Commission plans for and controls the use of federal lands in the National Capital Region, promotes Canadian pride and unity throughout the National Capital, uses the Capital to communicate Canada to Canadians, creates a meeting place for Canadians, and safeguards and preserves the Capital for future generations by developing and managing real assets.
