Minister Copps Announces an Appointment to the National Capital Commission

OTTAWA, December 9, 2002 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced the appointment of Marcel D. Legault as a member of the National Capital Commission. Mr. Legault's mandate will be for three years.

Mr. Legault, of Vaudreuil-Dorion, has acquired vast experience over the years in the area of construction, expansion and renovation in the construction, energy, civil engineering, transportation, urban services and water treatment sectors. An experienced manager and effective negotiator, Mr. Legault has worked for many private and government organizations. He participated in the establishment of an engineering consulting firm and was president of that company for many years. He has earned degrees in engineering and administration. He is both a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs and the Corporation des administrateurs agréés du Québec.

The National Capital Commission plans and controls the use of federal lands in the national capital region. It emphasizes the national importance of the region, the seat of the Government of Canada. It also promotes activities aimed at enriching the cultural and social fabric of Canada, while taking into account the federal aspect of Canada, its official languages and its heritage. It also creates a meeting place for Canadians and safeguards and protects the capital for future generations through the development and management of real estate.
