Minister Copps Announces Appointment to the Canadian Museum of Civilization

OTTAWA, February 27, 2003 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced the appointment of Harvey Allan Slack, of Ottawa, as a trustee of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

Since 1994, Mr. Slack has been the Executive Director of the Canadiana Fund, which is responsible to enhance the State areas of the official residences of Canada through fundraising and donations. Mr. Slack has been involved in the Museums community, first as a Project Analyst for the National Museums of Canada and then with the Canadian Museum of Nature in several capacities, including Public Relations Officer and Projects Officer, Chief of Special Events and Business Operations and Chief of Community Relations. He was responsible for the management of programs designed to increase the awareness of the Museum on local, national and international levels through special events, fundraising, promotion, sponsorships and partnerships, to name a few.

Mr. Slack has played an active role in cultural and community organizations. Some of his current and past involvements include being the Vice-President of the Thirteen Strings Orchestra and the Vice-Chairperson of the Ottawa School of Dance.

The Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation is the Crown corporation responsible for the management of the Canadian Museum of Civilization and its affiliate, the Canadian War Museum, as well as the Virtual Museum of New France. One of the Corporation's key objectives is to enhance the understanding of Canada's heritage for current and future generations to increase the sense of national identity in all Canadians.
