Minister Copps Announces Appointment to the Canadian Museum of Nature

OTTAWA, March 3, 2003 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced the appointment of Frederic T. Kasravi of Victoria, British Columbia, as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Nature.

Mr. Kasravi graduated with a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tehran. Following a successful business career in his country of origin, Mr. Kasravi immigrated to Canada and soon became top salesman in the world for many life insurance companies including the Sun Life, North American Life and Confederation Life.

Since 1980, Mr. Kasravi is Chairman of the Ontabia Business Development Corporation, a company which identifies and facilitates trading opportunities for various goods and services between Canada, the Middle East, Europe and the United States. He is also the Managing Director, Marketing, for First Security Capital since 2001.

Mr. Kasravi has been involved on the boards of many organizations, including the Olympic Bid 2008 Committee, the Royal Ontario Museum, the Kidney Foundation of Canada and the Friends of H.M.C.S. Haida, Over the years, Mr. Kasravi has received a number of honours and awards, including the 1991 Citation for Citizenship Award from the Minister of Multiculturalism and Citizenship of Canada.

The Canadian Museum of Nature is an important federal cultural organization dedicated to increasing, throughout Canada and internationally, interest in, knowledge of, and appreciation and respect for the natural world.
