Minister Chalifour Scherrer Announces Appointment to Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Civilization

OTTAWA, April 5, 2004 -- The Honourable Hélène Chalifour Scherrer, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced the appointment of Thelma Ann Brennan as a part-time member of the board of trustees of the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

A historian, artist, and writer, Ms. Brennan lives in Johnville, New Brunswick, and is known for her extensive community involvement. In addition to holding the positions of vice-president of the Multicultural Association of Carleton County and director of the St. John River Society, she has also participated in the Writers' Federation of New Brunswick, the Johnville Heritage Committee, the Canadian Association for Irish Studies, and the Canadian Irish Association of New Brunswick.

She is the author of numerous publications, including the historical biography The Real Klondike Kate (1990), and Feathers & Shells (2000). As a participant in the Writers in the School program, Ms. Brennan has made presentations encouraging young people to discover their culture and heritage.

The Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation is a Crown corporation responsible for managing the Canadian Museum of Civilization and its affiliate, the Canadian War Museum, as well as the Virtual Museum of New France. One of the Corporation's objectives is to make Canadians of today and tomorrow aware of their heritage and to strengthen their sense of national identity.
