Minister Frulla announces appointment to the Canada Council for the ArtsOTTAWA, November 8, 2004 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Liza Frulla today announced the appointment of Laurent Lapierre, of Montreal, as a member of the Canada Council for the Arts.Mr. Lapierre is a tenured professor who holds the Pierre Péladeau Chair in Leadership at the École des hautes études commerciales (HEC). He was the first Director-General of the Société artistique de l'Université Laval and the first Administrative Director of the Théâtre du Trident. He has also served on the boards of directors of several theatre companies, as well as that of the Montréal Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Lapierre is currently a member of the board of the Fonds d'investissement de la culture et des communications. In 1997, Mr. Lapierre received the prestigious Teaching Award from the École des HEC de Montréal, and, in 2001, the 3M Recognition in Education Award by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE). In 2003, he received the Prix d'excellence en enseignement de la gestion (Quebec Region). The Canada Council for the Arts fosters and promotes the study, enjoyment and production of works in the arts by providing assistance to individual artists and arts organizations through a peer assessment process, it also administers the Public Lending Right program of payments to authors; co-ordinates the development of UNESCO activities in Canada, and co-ordinates Canadian participation in UNESCO activities abroad.
