OTTAWA, January 13, 2005 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced the appointment of Suzanne Sheaves, of Halifax, to Telefilm Canada.

"I am pleased that someone like Ms. Sheaves, who is passionate about film and has a strong business and investment background, will be able to share her talents at Telefilm Canada," said Minister Frulla.

Ms. Sheaves is currently Vice-President of the Suzanne Sheaves Group of CIBC Wood Gundy where she worked as Branch Manager from 1999-2002. She served as Senior Vice-President of Nesbitt Burns from 1993-1998 and as Vice-President of Dean Witter from 1990-1993. She was an Investment Advisor with McLeod Young Weir from 1981-1990.

Ms. Sheaves worked as a small business consultant from 1978-1981 and lectured at the Faculty of Dentistry at Dalhousie University from 1974-1978. From 1971-1974 she was a dental hygienist with the Nova Scotia Department of Public Health.

She is currently a member of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia and the Dalhousie Planned Giving Advisory Board and in the past served on the Girl Guides of Canada Finance Committee, St. Mary's Capital Campaign and the Neptune Theatre Board of Directors.

As a cultural investor in cinema, television, multimedia and music, Telefilm Canada is primarily concerned with the funding of original, diverse and high-quality productions that reflect Canada's linguistic duality and cultural diversity. Telefilm Canada also works to ensure the broadest possible dissemination of Canadian productions at home and abroad, and seeks to be a leading promoter of a Canadian audiovisual industry of international calibre.
