Minister Frulla Announces Appointment to the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Nature
OTTAWA, February 22, 2005 --Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced the appointment of Teresa MacNeil, of Johnstown, Nova Scotia, as a part-time member of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Nature."Ms. MacNeil's invaluable experience and knowledge will greatly benefit the Museum's Board of Trustees," said Minister Frulla.
Ms. MacNeil is presently a consultant specializing in community and organization development in Nova Scotia. During a career spanning 37 years at St. Francis Xavier University, she worked as an Adult Education professor and held a number of directorships.
Ms. MacNeil served as Chair of the Sydney Steel Corporation's Board of Directors between 1999 and 2001. From 1985 to 1988, she chaired the Cape Breton Development Corporation's Board of Directors and served as its Acting President from 1987 to 1988. She also acted as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation from 1986 to 1988, and as Chair of the Federal-Provincial Task Force on the Economy of Cape Breton. In 2001, she was appointed and served for a year as Commissioner of the Public Review Commission, a committee focussing on the effects of oil and gas exploitation off the coast of Cape Breton.
Member of the Order of Canada since 2004, Ms. MacNeil was awarded the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of Confederation in 1992.
The Canadian Museum of Nature is an important federal cultural organization dedicated to increasing interest in, knowledge of, and appreciation and respect for our natural environment throughout Canada and the world.
