Minister Frulla Announces Appointment to the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board

OTTAWA, March 16, 2005 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced the appointment of Burton G. S. Glendenning, of Fredericton, New Brunswick, as a part-time member of the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board.

"Mr. Glendenning has a wealth of experience to bring to the Board. I am certain that his knowledge will be a valuable asset to the organization", said Minister Frulla.

A graduate of Loyola College (B.A. Honours, North American History), Concordia University (M.A., Canadian history), and the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design (Certificate in photography), Mr. Glendenning has led a distinguished career as a fine art photographer and an archivist. A private archival researcher since 2002, he has also worked with the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick, serving consecutive terms as Manager, Facilities and Exhibits; Manager, Administration and Facilities; Coordinator, Historical Division; and Archivist, Judicial Records.

Mr. Glendenning has been a member of the National Archives Appraisal Board since 1984. He has been President and Vice-President of the Association of Canadian Archivists, and was a member of the Canadian Council of Archives and the Bureau of Canadian Archivists.

The Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board has a mandate to determine whether a cultural property is of outstanding significance or of national importance under the terms of the Cultural Property Export and Import Act. It is also responsible for determining the fair market value of objects donated to Canadian institutions, including libraries, archives, and museums. In addition, the Board reviews appeals of applications denied for permits to export cultural property.
