Minister Frulla Announces Appointment to the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board

OTTAWA, September 7, 2005 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced the appointment of Céline Saucier, of Cap-Rouge, Quebec, as a part-time member of the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board.

"Ms. Saucier brings a wealth of experience that will benefit the Board. I am certain that her knowledge will be a valuable asset to the organization," said Minister Frulla.

Ms. Saucier is President and Director General of the International Historic Heritage Foundation (Canada). From 1993 to 1998, she was Director of Special Projects for the Organization of World Heritage Cities (Québec). She has also acted as Coordinator of Communications and Public Relations for the XV General Conference of the International Council of Museums, in Québec, in 1992. From 1974 to 1989, Ms. Saucier served as Cultural Officer and Curator of the Amerindian and Inuit collections at the Ministère des Affaires culturelles, the Musée du Québec, and the Musée de la civilisation. From 1979 to 1984, she was the proprietor of Boutique Sedna, an Inuit art gallery in Québec.

Very involved in her community, Ms. Saucier has, for the last several years, been a governor of the Opéra de Québec, a member of the executive of the symphony orchestra in Québec, as well as a member and honorary advisor to the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board. In addition, she has been a member of the Québec National Capital Commission since 2004, and also a member of the Club musical, the Board of the Musée du Québec, and the Fondation d'aide à l'artiste carougeois.

The Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board has a mandate to determine whether a cultural property is of outstanding significance or of national importance under the terms of the Cultural Property Export and Import Act. It is also responsible for determining the fair market value of objects donated to Canadian institutions, including libraries, archives, and museums. In addition, the Board reviews appeals of applications denied for permits to export cultural property.
