OTTAWA, November 24, 2005 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced the appointment of Harold Emile Robinson, of Edmonton, Alberta, as a part-time member of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Nature.

"Mr. Robinson's background in the legal profession and his involvement with Aboriginal communities will be an asset to the Canadian Museum of Nature," said Minister Frulla.

Mr. Robinson, a lawyer by profession, has been a mediator of the Edmonton Civil Claims Mediation Process since 1999. He has also been the executive coordinator of the Métis Settlements General Council since 2003 and an adjudicator for the National Indian Residential School Claims process since 2004.

Mr. Robinson served as co-chair of the National Aboriginal Youth Strategy Working Group from 2001 to 2003. From 2000 to 2003, he was also the director of federal–provincial relations with Alberta Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development.

From 1997 to 2000, Mr. Robinson served as Director of the Métis Settlements Centre for Tripartite Negotiations, and, from 1998 to 2000, he was also chair of the Métis Settlements Community Lottery Board. He worked as a senior investigation officer and appeals advisor for the Métis Settlements Appeals Tribunal from 1995 to 1997.

Mr. Robinson has been a member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Canadian Bar Association, since 1994, and a member of the Indigenous Bar Association, since 1995.

The Canadian Museum of Nature is an important federal cultural organization dedicated to increasing interest in, knowledge of, and appreciation and respect for our natural environment throughout Canada and the world.
