Minister Dupuy Makes Five Appointments to the National Capital Commission

OTTAWA, December 18, 1995 Canadian Heritage Minister Michel Dupuy today announced the appointment of Ms. Nancy Power, Mr. Alec Katz, Ms. Joan O'Neill, Mr. John Mlacak and Mr. Marc Letellier to the Board of Directors of the National Capital Commission. The appointments are effective immediately.

Ms. Power, who lives in Edmonton, is managing director of Galahad Holdings Ltd. and of H.J.M. Investments Ltd., which hold and manage real estate. She is also a volunteer in the arts community and has received the Lescarbot Award for her contribution to the arts. In addition to being president and director of The Theatre Network, she is a member of the Board of Governors of the National Theatre School of Canada.

Mr. Katz resides in Winnipeg and is a partner with Stechesen Katz Architects. He has helped to design major structures in Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec, for which he has received numerous awards, including the Preservation Awards for Excellence, the National Award of Honour, the Award for Excellence in the Urban Environment and the French Government's Design Prize.

Ms. O'Neill lives in Ottawa and has served as Councillor in the City of Ottawa and the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton. During her terms as municipal and regional councillor, she was chairperson of the Community Services and Operations Committee. She is also knowledgeable on environmental issues and is a past president of the Central Canada Exhibition Association.

Mr. Mlacak, who resides in Kanata, served as councillor of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton and as reeve of March Township. A retired electrical engineer in Northern Telecom and Bell-Northern Research, he has experience in local and regional land use planning. He is a well known community volunteer.

Mr. Letellier, who lives in Quebec City, is a partner in Gagnon, Letellier, Cyr, Architects, and has made several study trips to Europe and Asia. He has served as a member of the Urbanization and Conservation Commission of Quebec City and is a member of Quebec's Ad Hoc Public Review Board on the Environment. His firm has won several prizes for excellence from the Association of Landscape Architects of Canada and from the Order of Architects of Quebec.
