Copps Announces Appointment to the National Capital Commission

OTTAWA, September 15, 1999 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced the appointment of Heather Chiasson as Vice Chair of the National Capital Commission (NCC) for a term of three years.

From 1976 to 1978, while employed at the Bronson Home for the Aged, Ms. Chiasson worked part-time for Upjohn Health Care, and performed registered nursing duties on a casual basis at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, Queensway-Carleton Hospital and the National Defence Medical Centre. From 1978 to 1991, Ms. Chiasson held a variety of positions at the Izaak Walton Killam Hospital for Children in Nova Scotia, including the position of Head Nurse of the Pediatric Echocardiology Laboratory.

Ms. Chiasson has been involved in various fundraising activities for organizations, such as the Terry Fox Run, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada and the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. She was a board member of a number of organizations, including the Symphony Nova Scotia, the Great Canadian Theatre Company and the New Edinburgh Community Association.
