Minister Copps Delighted that August 15 has been Designated National Acadian DayJune 20, 2003 -- "I am pleased that Bill S-5, An Act respecting a National Acadian Day,' received Royal Assent yesterday. The Bill was adopted by the House of Commons with the unanimous support of members prior to the summer recess.Acadian men and women are models of perseverance and determination for the entire country. Their vision is founded on the ideals of democracy, tolerance, and freedom, which encourage the cultural and linguistic diversity that characterizes our society and gives us our strength. I am delighted that our Government is a partner of the Francophone and Acadian community, which is famous for its pride, its innovative spirit, its vision, and its enthusiasm," said Minister Copps.
