Government of Canada announces funding for Imprimerie des Éditions Vaudreuil

VAUDREUIL-DORION, October 3, 2003 -- Nick Discepola, Member of Parliament (Vaudreuil Soulanges), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $16,314 for Imprimerie des Éditions Vaudreuil Inc., which publishes Le Partenaire magazine. This financing will enable the company to launch a new promotional campaign, including a new media kit, as well as telephone and electronic public opinion surveys.

"The Government of Canada is pleased to support this project, which is an excellent example of our commitment to helping the magazine industry give itself the tools it needs to both raise its profile and ensure its financial stability," said Mr. Discepola. "It is important to give the people of the West Island of Montréal, as well as readers throughout the country, access to a wide variety of perspectives and opinions."

The publisher of Le Partenaire plans to use the funding to strengthen the magazine's advertising base. In addition, this funding should help the six-year-old magazine to continue to grow and to offer the highest quality service to the population.

The Department of Canadian Heritage provides this financial assistance through the Canada Magazine Fund. This fund contributes toward the production of high-quality magazines showcasing the work of a wide cross-section of Canadian creators. It also helps build industry capacity through support for small magazines' business development and for broad, industry infrastructure projects.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
