Government of Canada Supports the Association québécoise des éducateurs et des éducatrices du primaire

MONTRÉAL, October 20, 2003 -- Yolande Thibeault, Member of Parliament (Saint-Lambert), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $7,852 for the Association québécoise des éducateurs et des éducatrices du primaire (AQEP), to help fund a market survey for its quarterly publication Vivre le primaire.
"The Government of Canada is pleased to support the Association québécoise des éducateurs et des éducatrices du primaire in this project," said Ms. Thibeault. "This initiative is an excellent example of our commitment both to improve the quality of Canadian magazines and to foster diversity in that sector."

AQEP's mission is to highlight the value of grade school teaching, foster greater cooperation among all stakeholders in grade school education, and organize ongoing skills development activities. First published in 1988, Vivre le primaire's primary audience is grade school teachers, as well as all other groups and individuals interested in grade school issues.

The funding will enable AQEP to commission a market survey that will seek concrete ideas for an action plan to develop promotional tools for the magazine, as well as improve the magazine's editorial content. The market survey will improve the magazine's ability to respond to readers' needs; as a result, the number of subscribers is expected to increase.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Support for Business Development for Small Magazine Publishers component of the Canada Magazine Fund (CMF). The CMF contributes toward the production of high-quality Canadian magazines that showcase the work of a wide cross-section of Canadian creators. It also helps build industry capacity through support for small magazines' business development and for broad, industry infrastructure projects.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
