Government of Canada announces financial support for the Éditions Vents d'Ouest

GATINEAU, December 4, 2003 -- Marcel Proulx, Member of Parliament (HullÑAylmer), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced $24,977 in funding for Éditions Vents d'Ouest.

"The Government of Canada is proud to support the efforts shown by this publisher to develop, promote, and publish unique quality literature over the last 10 years," said Mr. Proulx. "I want to congratulate Éditions Vents d'Ouest for helping to expose the works of talented authors from the Outaouais to local audiences as well as to readers from across the country."

Established in 1993, Vents d'Ouest publishes novels, short story collections, and other literary works for all readers, including young people. It also publishes essays on local history. This funding will allow the publishing house to develop tools and targeted promotional activities to help Canadian readers discover the quality and talent of authors from the Outaouais.

Funding is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Aid to Publishers and the Support to the Canadian Book Industry Supply Chain Initiative components of the Book Publishing Industry Development Program (BPIDP). The objective of the BPIDP is to strengthen the capacity of the Canadian-owned and -controlled sector of the industry to publish and market Canadian books in both domestic and international markets.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal budget.
