Government of Canada supports the Corporation of the Banque de titres de langue française

MONTREAL, October 18, 2004 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Liza Frulla today announced funding of $626,040 for the Corporation that manages the Banque de titres de langue française (BTLF). Of this amount, $149,209 will be used to standardize bibliographical information, while $476,830 in funding will enable the BTLF to pursue its efforts to strengthen its existing partnerships and to establish new ones.

"The Government of Canada is pleased to support the efforts of the Banque de titres de langue française to promote and market works created by our Francophone writers," said Minister Frulla. "I commend the Corporation's efforts to make French-Canadian literature better known throughout North America."

The BTLF's Corporation was created by and for professionals in the book industry. The Corporation's mission is to encourage the marketing of French-language works published in Canada and abroad, as well as to encourage and support communication and cooperation among publishers, booksellers, distributors, and other stakeholders in the book industry.

The Department of Canadian Heritage is providing this funding through the Support for the Canadian Book Industry Supply Chain Initiative component of the Book Publishing Industry Development Program. This year, the program marks its 25th anniversary.

Funding announced today was provided for in the March 2004 federal budget.
