Government of Canada Supports 12 Quebec Magazines

MONTREAL, July 20, 2005 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced $529,897 in funding for 12 Quebec magazines. The funds will enable the publishers of these magazines to continue to provide editorial content that reflects the everyday lives of Canadians.

"Magazines produced in Canada occupy an important place in our cultural landscape. They enable us to share our knowledge, our viewpoints and our expertise in a wide range of fields," said Minister Frulla. "The Government of Canada is proud to support these 12 magazines, which reflect the concerns and the interests of Canadians."

The magazines that will receive this funding are: Camping Caravaning ($38,585), Courrier Hippique ($31,294), Fugues ($35,820), Géo Plein Air ($39,563), Le Journal de la rue ($29,118), Les débrouillards ($46,354), L'Itinéraire ($31,172), Nation ($32,845), Protégez-vous ($118,414), Québec Science ($52,802), Vélo Mag ($39,914), and Vie et Santé ($34,016).

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Support for Editorial Content component of its Canada Magazine Fund, which is part of the Government of Canada's commitment to ensure that Canadian readers have access to quality Canadian publications. To achieve this, the Department supports Canadian publishers who are eligible for reimbursement of the production costs related to Canadian content in paid-distribution Canadian magazines.

Funding announced today was provided for in the February 2005 federal budget.
