Government of Canada is Proud to Support the 11th Edition of the Rendez-vous Musical de Laterrière

MONTRÉAL, August 4, 2000 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced financial support of $10,000 to the 11th edition of the Rendez-vous musical de Laterrière. Six chamber music concerts will take place at the Laterrière church between August 9 and 18.

"I'm proud to be involved with the production of this musical rendez-vous, which showcases the collective efforts and talent of artists from the region and beyond," Minister Copps said. "This unique cultural event should be applauded for making chamber music available to an appreciative regional audience."

The Rendez-vous Musical de Laterrière, with the support of Canadian Heritage, will heighten the public's exposure to classical music of the chamber and baroque varieties. Canadian and foreign musicians will enjoy a rare collaborative opportunity, offering the people of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean region emotionally stirring concerts.

Those who attend the concert series will discover new composers amidst the quality performances of small-ensemble music. Guest artists will offer interpretations of several lesser-known pieces, including some by iconic composers such as Bach, Beethoven and Brahms.

The Department of Canadian Heritage has granted this financial assistance under its Cultural Initiatives Program. Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2000 federal budget and is part of the existing financial framework.
