The Government of Canada Announces Financial Support for the Festival internarional de la chanson de Granby

MONTRÉAL, August 29, 2001 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced financial support of $50,000 for the 33nd Edition of the Festival international de la chanson de Granby.

"The Festival international de la chanson de Granby offers an unequalled springboard to our young Francophone singers. It allows the younger generation of musical talent to establish a relationship with the music industry and the general public," said Minister Copps. "This important cultural event is a testimony of the vitality of the French language and culture and contributes to their promotion at home and abroad."

The support of the Government of Canada for events and cultural organizations such as the Festival international de la chanson de Granby is an indication of its commitment to participate in the development of arts and culture in all regions of Canada.

This project is funded through the Official Languages Support Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
