The Government of Canada Appoints Canada Music Council Members
OTTAWA, April 10, 2002 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced the members of the Canada Music Council. The Council has a mandate to advise the Minister on the evolution of the new Canada Music Fund. Co-chairs will be Bill Henderson from Vancouver, Rosaire Archambault from Montréal and Denise Donlon from Toronto. A list of Council members is attached."The list of Council members reads like a who's who of our sound recording industry. The group will offer guidance based on their own diverse experience in the industry. We have label representatives, songwriters, producers, performers and broadcasters. It's an all-star team of the Canadian music sector," said Minister Copps. "We want to give full scope to our dynamic Canadian music scene, and to do this we need to foster a strong partnership among all the players."
The Council will be involved in the overall strategic planning and ongoing evaluation of the programs of the Canada Music Fund and will report directly to the Minister of Canadian Heritage. The objective of the Canada Music Fund, as announced in June 2001, in Halifax, is to ensure a healthy and competitive Canadian sound recording industry.
"More than ever before, it is important for our sound recording industry to continue to grow on the global stage," added Minister Copps. "We have the plan and we now have the people to help us make it work."
The delivery of the Canada Music Fund programs will be carried out by FACTOR, MusicAction, Telefilm Canada, the Canada Council for the Arts, the National Library of Canada, AVTrust.ca, SOCAN Foundation and the Department of Canadian Heritage.
