Government of Canada Announces Funding for the London Central Library

LONDON, February 28, 2003 -- Members of Parliament for the London Area, Sue Barnes, Joe Fontana, Gar Knutson, and Pat O'Brien, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $150,000 for the London Central Library's Wolf Performance Hall Project.

"The Government of Canada is committed to support access to the arts for all Canadians, and to foster creativity, diversity and excellence," said Member of Parliament for London West Sue Barnes.

"This funding will help ensure that arts organizations have state-of-the-art facilities so they can focus on what they do best: create great art," said Member of Parliament for London North Centre Joe Fontana.

"Upgrading this facility from a theatre to a performance hall will expand the diversity of arts presentations in London," said Secretary of State (Central and Eastern Europe and Middle East) and Member of Parliament for Elgin-Middlesex-London Gar Knutson.

"Funding for the Wolf Performance Hall will lead to a richer cultural life in the Greater London Area," said Member of Parliament for London-Fanshawe Pat O'Brien.

The renovated Wolf Performance Hall now has 380 seats and appropriate equipment and acoustics which will provide the community with access to festivals, reading series, and music series.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Cultural Spaces Canada program. Funding for the initiative was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
