Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Two Planks and A Passion Theatre Association

CANNING, March 27, 2003 -- The Honourable Robert Thibault, Regional Minister for Nova Scotia and Member of Parliament for West Nova, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $850,000 for the Two Planks and A Passion Theatre Association.

"Theatre plays an important role in our culture," said Minister Thibault. "All Canadians, especially our youth, should have access to the richness of arts and culture. This is why the Government of Canada is committed to supporting artistic creativity in all regions of Canada."

Two Planks and a Passion Theatre Association plans to create the Ross Creek Centre for the Arts. This Centre will be a unique destination in Atlantic Canada for artists of all disciplines and at all stages in their careers to come immerse themselves in theatre-based artistic creation. It will foster creative interaction among artists and between artists and the community. The funding provided will go toward the renovation of existing buildings, the creation of new facilities, and the purchase of equipment for the Centre.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Cultural Spaces Canada program. Funding for this initiative was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
