Government of Canada Supports International Growth Initiatives of Two Canadian Companies

MONTREAL, April 26, 2005 --Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister Responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced $20,000 in funding for Collections Mariouche Inc. and $21,000 in funding for Pixcom International Inc. This financial assistance will enable both firms to take advantage of business opportunities in overseas markets.

"We can all be proud of the know-how of Canadian businesspeople," said Minister Frulla. "Our Government is determined to raise the international profile of the high-quality products offered by the Canadian businesses. We also want to ensure that our citizens can take advantage of interesting investment opportunities."

As a result of the funding announced today, Les Collections Mariouche will be able to take part in international trade shows, including events in France, Denmark, and Germany. A firm involved in the fashion sector, Les Collections Mariouche creates a variety of goods using a process that recycles cloth, wool, and fur products, including some sold under the Harricana brand name.

For its part, Pixcom will be looking to enhance its presence role in European markets, including taking part in business events where firms sign production agreements for films, television programs, and documentaries. If it is primarily a television production company, Pixcom also offers television engineering services, distributes in Canadian and international markets, and offers dubbing services.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Trade Routes program, which helps arts and culture organizations and businesses gain access to international markets. Funding is offered to all arts and culture sectors, including the performing and visual arts, film, video and television production, music and sound recording, publishing, design, crafts, heritage preservation and restoration, and new media.

Funding announced today was provided for in the March 2004 federal budget.
