Domaine Forget De Charlevoix Receives Support from the Government of Canada

MONTREAL, June 9, 2005 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced $108,700 in funding for the
Domaine Forget de Charlevoix. The funds will enable the organization to modernize the sound and lighting systems in the Françoys-Bernier concert hall.

"The Domaine Forget is an arts training and performance centre that contributes significantly to the vitality of our country's musical scene," said Minister Frulla. "I am proud to support this cultural institution in its efforts to improve its equipment and offer high-calibre performances to local audiences and visitors from near and far."

The Domaine Forget de Charlevoix organizes a very popular summer festival every year. In addition, it offers a music and dance academy for young people and future professionals. It attracts artists from around the world and has, over the last 25 years, welcomed more than 10 000 students and presented some 680 concerts.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Cultural Spaces Canada program. This program supports cultural infrastructure projects that increase access for Canadians to performing, visual, and media arts and also improves physical conditions for artistic creativity and innovation.

Funding for this initiative was provided for in the February 2005 federal Budget.
