The Government of Canada is Proud to Support the Déclics. Art et société. Le Québec des années 60 et 70 exhibition

OTTAWA, May 25, 1999 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced that $75,000 has been granted to the Déclics. Art et société. Le Québec des années 60 et 70 exhibition. The exhibition will be held simultaneously in Montreal and Québec City. The historical review will be presented at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal from May 28 to October 31, 1999, and the civil art element of the show will be held at the Musée de la civilisation from May 26 to October 24, 1999, in Québec City.

"This exhibition is presenting more than 225 works by 90 artists inspired by the social and cultural upheavals that occurred in Quebec in the 1960s and 1970s during the Quiet Revolution. Its originality resides in the melding of two distinct approaches, one historical and the other aesthetic, to create a single universe that reflects this period. It's a chance for all Canadians to discover a part of Quebec history," said Minister Copps.

This initiative is the result of two institutions' wish to diversify their approaches and to share their expertise. It also contributes to the evolution of work methods used in Canadian museology.

The Government of Canada is proud to support the Déclics. Art et société. Le Québec des années 60 et 70 exhibition and many other cultural events that promote the development and growth of arts and culture in Canada.

In this Year of La Francophonie canadienne, the exhibition reflects the cultural and artistic vitality of Francophones from all over Canada.

Financial support for the Déclics. Art et société. Le Québec des années 60 et 70 exhibition is provided under the Museums Assistance Program. Financing for this project was forecast in the February 1999 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
