Canada Day Poster Challenge 2000 Finalist for Yukon Announced

WHITEHORSE, May 19, 2000 -- Shirley Adamson, President of the Celebrate Canada Committee for Yukon, announced today that Kita Loeks, 13, of Whitehorse, has been chosen as the Yukon finalist in the Canada Day Poster Challenge 2000. The name of the winner was announced at a ceremony in Whitehorse.

The second and third place artists were Krystal Reaume, 12, of Whitehorse, and Lisa Beauchemin, 13, of Whitehorse.

Sponsored by the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Canada Day Poster Challenge 2000 was open to young people 18 years of age and under and drew approximately 19,000 entries across the country. Participants were invited to use their imagination to create posters that showed their pride in Canada by interpreting the Poster Challenge theme, "Canada: The Place to Be!"

One poster design will be chosen from among the provincial and territorial finalists as the official Canada Day poster to be distributed across the country. Kita, the other finalists and their guardians will be guests of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps in Ottawa on July 1. They will join the Governor General, the Prime Minister and the thousands of Canadians who gather on Parliament Hill to take part in the Canada Day festivities.

Jasc Software Canada, Ltd., the official software sponsor of the Canada Day Poster Challenge 2000, will provide Jasc Paint Shop Pro 6TM CD's to the 13 provincial/territorial finalists and runners-up. Each of the 13 finalists will also receive a copy of the Jasc Media Center Plus 3.
