Canada Day Poster Challenge 2001 Finalist for the Northwest Territories Announced

YELLOWKNIFE, May 7, 2001 -- On behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, Fred E. Koe, President of the Celebrate Canada Committee for the Northwest Territories, today announced that Tyler Goudreau, 17, a student at Diamond Jeness Secondary School in Hay River, has been chosen as the Northwest Territories' finalist in the Canada Day Poster Challenge 2001. The announcement was made today in Yellowknife.

The second and third place artists were Christopher Chassé, 10, a student at École Allain St-Cyr in Yellowknife; and Jerimiah Fehr, 18, a student at St. Pat's High School in Yellowknife.

Sponsored by the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Canada Day Poster Challenge 2001 was open to young people 18 years of age and under and drew more than 150 entries from across the Northwest Territories. Participants were invited to use their imagination to create posters that showed their pride in Canada by interpreting the Poster Challenge theme, "Celebrating Canada's Diversity."

One design will be chosen from among the provincial/territorial finalists as the official Canada Day poster to be distributed across the country. All finalists and their guardians will be guests of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps in Ottawa on July 1. They will join the Governor General, the Prime Minister and the thousands of Canadians who gather on Parliament Hill to take part in the Canada Day festivities.

Jasc Software Inc., the official software sponsor of the Canada Day Poster Challenge 2001, will provide Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7 CDs to the 13 provincial/territorial finalists and runners-up.
