The Government of Canada provides financial support to the Edmonton Celebrate Canada Society

EDMONTON, July 1st, 2003 -- David Kilgour, Member of Parliament for Edmonton Southeast, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced financial support of $ 30,510 for the Edmonton Celebrate Canada Society.

"The Government of Canada is pleased to support Edmonton's Celebrate Canada Society," said David Kilgour. "Congratulations to the Committee, the event organizers and volunteers who make Celebrate Canada events in Edmonton a huge success."

The Edmonton Celebrate Canada Society is coordinating Canada Day activities in Edmonton on behalf of various local planning committees. These activities include pancake breakfasts, the Canada Day Run, parades, picnics, games and other events in Edmonton and surrounding communities.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Canadian Identity - Canada Day program that promotes active citizen participation.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal budget.
