Government of Canada announces support for Canada Day celebrations in the Grosse-île borough of the Magdalen Islands

GROSSE-ÎLE, July 01, 2003 -- Georges Farrah, Member of Parliament (BonaventureÑGaspéÑÎles-de-la-MadeleineÑPabok) today announced on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, $5 000 in funding for Canada Day celebrations in the borough of Grosse-Île in the Municipality of the Magdalen Islands.

"July 1 is a time when we can all show our pride in belonging to the great Canadian family," Mr. Farrah said. "It's an amazing opportunity for all Canadians to fully experience the rich cultural diversity that defines us and to celebrate our heritage together."

The borough of Grosse-Île in the Magdalen Islands invites the public to join together and celebrate their love for Canada. Fireworks, music and singing are all part of the July 1 celebrations.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Celebrate Canada! program.

Funding for this initiative was provided for in the 2003 federal budget.
