Government of Canada announces funding for the New Brunswick Celebrate Canada! Committee

MONCTON, July 1, 2003 -- Claudette Bradshaw, Minister of Labour and Member of Parliament (Moncton Riverview Dieppe), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $24,000 to the Celebrate Canada! Committee for New Brunswick.

"Each year, Canadians from all across this country join together to celebrate Canada, especially from June 21 to July 1," said Minister Bradshaw. "The Government of Canada is committed to supporting organizations that value the essence of our Canadian identity, and that promote activities designed to commemorate Canada. Canadians recognize National Aboriginal Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, Canadian Multiculturalism Day, and Canada Day by organizing local activities where all citizens gather together and share in our common citizenship."

The funding will enable the Committee to promote, coordinate, and facilitate Celebrate Canada! activities throughout New Brunswick. The Committee will continue to partner with local organizations to commemorate Celebrate Canada! events, as well as with schools to deliver programs and services of the Department of Canadian Heritage, such as the Canada Day Poster Challenge, Flag Day Poetry Contest, and National Flag of Canada Day.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage under the Canada Day Program.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
