Community Council of White Oaks in London Receives Government Funding

LONDON, Ontario, June 30, 2006 - On behalf of the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, Joe Preston, Member of Parliament (Elgin-Middlesex-London), today announced $5,000 in funding for the Community Council of White Oaks' Canada Day 2006 festivities, a family celebration in South London. Festivities will include live musical entertainment, children's activities, and fireworks displays.

"Celebrate Canada! will make it possible for communities across the country to celebrate our collective achievements," said Minister Oda. "Activities like those planned in South London will allow all Canadians to show their love for this country and their pride in being Canadian."

"These celebrations in South London will strengthen community spirit by bringing together Canadians of all backgrounds," said Mr. Preston. "The Government of Canada is pleased to support Canadians in organizing Celebrate Canada! festivities."

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Celebrate Canada! program, which promotes pride in being Canadian by encouraging participation in Celebrate Canada! activities from June 21 to July 1 to mark National Aboriginal Day (June 21), Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day (June 24), Canadian Multiculturalism Day (June 27), and Canada Day (July 1).
