The Government of Canada is Proud to Support the Royal BC Museum

VICTORIA, August 4, 2000 -- On behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, Minister of the Environment David Anderson today announced financial support of $90,000 for the Royal BC Museum.

"The Royal BC Museum is one of Canada's finest cultural institutions. The exhibits, which highlight BC's first peoples, natural history and modern human history, are a testimony to the rich diversity of our people and the breathtaking beauty of the landscape. The Government of Canada is proud to be a partner with the Royal BC Museum and to support its efforts to connect with diverse audiences across the country and around the world," said Minister Anderson.

The Royal BC Museum is a leader in the field of technology-based exhibits and interactive educational programming. This funding will support an initiative entitled "@RoyalBCMuseum." Using advanced technology, the project will develop and enhance the museum's website, interactive galleries and virtual school programs.

The Department of Canadian Heritage has provided this financial support to the Royal BC Museum through its Museums Assistance Program. Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2000 budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
