The Government of Canada Announces Funding for Discovering Chimpanzees: The Remarkable World of Jane Goodall Exhibit

SUDBURY, July 12, 2002 -- The Hon. Diane Marleau, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, today announced on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, funding of $180,000 for Science North's Discovering Chimpanzees: the Remarkable World of Jane Goodall exhibit.

"This exhibit will allow Canadians to appreciate innovation in the field of scientific research," said Ms. Marleau. "Jane Goodall's work is renowned world-wide. I am proud that Sudbury residents are able to enjoy this exhibit produced by Science North."

Science North's Discovering Chimpanzees: the Remarkable World of Jane Goodall exhibit is a 6000-square-foot interactive exhibition featuring the work of Dr. Jane Goodall. The exhibit will not only lead visitors through 40 years of research, but also explore the family life of a chimpanzee.

Financial assistance is being provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage, through the Access and National Outreach component of its Museums Assistance Program. Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
