The Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Ecomusée des Deux-Rives

SALABERRY-DE-VALLEYFIELD, August 15, 2002 -- Serge Marcil, Member of Parliament for Beauharnois-Salaberry, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced $15,000 in funding for the Deux-Rives Eco-museum, to analyse acquisition costs and accessibility to a permanent site, and to develop promotional tools necessary for future financial campaigns.

"I am delighted to announce this contribution to Deux-Rives Eco-museum's re-location project," said Mr. Marcil. "As a regional priority, the Eco-museum's project to establish a permanent site has obtained the support of many partners in the region. I thank them and wholeheartedly look forward to this museum's opening in the near future."

The establishment of a permanent site will allow this institution to carry out its mission to develop educational programs and research projects and to distribute materials. Analytical steps and the development of promotional tools, like the financial campaigns to follow, will allow the population of the Suroît region and beyond to discover and appreciate the cultural and industrial heritage of the area.

Financial assistance is being provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage, through the Organizational Development component of its Museums Assistance Program.

Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
