The Government of Canada Announces Funding for Moose Jaw Art Museum

MOOSE JAW, May 27, 2003 -- Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Member of Parliament
(Wascana), on behalf of Sheila Copps, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced funding of $54,900 for the Moose Jaw Art Museum, Inc.

"The Government of Canada is committed to promote Canadian cultural works across Canada," said Mr. Goodale. "These funds will help expand opportunities for audiences to see the works of an artist from Moose Jaw, by supporting an exhibition that will travel to other parts of Canada."

The Moose Jaw Art Museum will present the exhibit, "Vaughan Grayson at the Top of the World: A Woman Artist in the Canadian Rockies," which consists of paintings, silkscreen prints and ink drawings. The exhibit will then tour to Whyte Museum in Banff, Alberta, and the Kelowna Art Gallery in British Columbia.

This project is funded under the Museums Assistance Program, which provides financial support to Canadian museums and related institutions for projects that foster excellence in museum activities and that facilitate access to the treasures of our collective heritage.

Program guidelines and application forms are available on the Department of Canadian Heritage Web site under "Application Forms" at http://www.canadianheritage.gc.ca

Funding for this initiative was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
